New tractor units enter service

In December VLS took delivery of five Volvo tractor units for Northumbrian Water Group, which are the first of their type to enter the fleet. All five vehicles are FM 500 44t 6×2 sleeper cabs which are dual purpose, as they are built to work with both tanker barrels and tipping trailers.

NWG Transport Manager, Ben Connolly, said “The introduction of the new Volvo FM marks a significant milestone in optimising the NW fleet. The advanced technology integrated into these vehicles will ensure a higher level of reliability, fuel efficiency and safety.”

NWG Bioresources Logistics Manager, Lyn Coates, added “The new Volvo units have been very much welcomed by our Bran Sands drivers, and the feedback from them has been very positive regarding the comfort and quality of the drive.”

There are eleven tractor units operating within NWG Bioresources, this being seven MAN’s and four Volvo’s, each of which will travel approximately 160,000 kilometers per year, backed up with two VLS relief units, one MAN and one Volvo, to provide
resilience.

VLS Contract Manager, Steve Callahan, said “We are delighted that these Volvo’s have arrived and to see how well they have been received within the NWG Bioresources team.
