Technician

One of the UK’s leading transport and fleet management providers, we now require a Technician to join our Howdon workshop.

As a key member of the workshop team, you’ll:

  • repair, maintain and inspect vehicles/plant to ensure they comply with DVSA/Industry standards.
    inspect vehicles/plant by systematically checking and testing to ensure operational legality, safety and functionality whilst determining the repair requirements.
  • ensure maximum use of technical knowledge and skills to achieve effective, economic and safe service and repair of fleet.
  • carry out work within industry standard timescales whilst maintaining the quality of work expected
  • work professionally in an independent environment; maintaining the levels of VLS customer service expected while on customer sites.
  • ensure maximum use of technical knowledge and skills to achieve effective, economic and safe service/repairs of vehicles and plant.
  • manage electronic job cards, accurate reporting of parts and labour and rectification of customer defects.
  • comply with VLS’ Integrated Management System for Quality, Environmental, Health and Safety and Data Security standards.

It is essential that you hold City & Guilds/ NVQ level 3 in motor vehicle/ plant repair or equivalent technical qualification. With an awareness of and experience with a variety of vehicles and plant, you’ll have strong organisational skills, including managing independent deadlines, and be an excellent, customer focused team player. Customer service and health and safety experience is also required.

In addition, an HGV Driving Licence (Class 2 Minimum), fleet database experience, IMS policy & procedure awareness, and Data & Information Security awareness are all desirable.
